The UMO – International Cartoon Contest is held by UsabilityMatters.Org towards the World Usability Day. All the awarded and qualified cartoons will be exhibited on 30th November 2007 on the World Usability Day.
Participation is open to all cartoonists from every country in the world.
There is no Entry fee. Please go through the rules and regulations – and in particular – the conditions applicable to the intellectual property rights.
Theme for the Competition
Health Via Technology
Brief:
In today’s world of touch-button technology, we’re gently reminded about the human frailty when we, or someone amongst near and dear ones have to pay a visit to the”Hospital”. An activity inherently associated with the physical well-being of the human body is now surmounted by the platitude of the machines that surround the process.
The days of ”healing-touch”, and an emphatic year of a neighbourhood physician are fast being replaced by the regular hum of a machine taking stock of your full body.
Scans, Monitors, reports, tests, x-rays, and more artifacts like these dominate the health landscape today. But this is not all that bad as it has also helped improve the quality of healthcare.
Now, this is the theme for the cartoon contest. The participants have to highlight the chasm and the charm created by the use of Technology to aid Health.
Awards and Acknowledgements
A jury will select the top 6 winning entries, the cartoonists will be granted a cash prize award of
• First prize Rs.25,000/- (Rs. Twenty five thousand only)
• Two second prizes of Rs. 10,000/- (Rs. Ten thousand only)each
• Three Third prizes Rs. 5,000/- (Rs. Five thousand only)each
• Five Special mention awards
An exhibition of the winning and short listed entries will be held and UMO will publish an exhaustive works report.
The jury and the judgment criteria
We are in process of putting a jury of well-known professionals and socially active personalities. The names will be announced in due course, depending on confirmation. For Judgment jury will use criteria such as creativity, humor, visual communication, presentation, persuasiveness, originality, cleverness, relevance of content and execution to identify the winner.
Deadline for Submission
Cartoons will be accepted through October 31st, 2007

Intellectual property rights
UMO may, in its sole discretion to use the art-work (images, photograph, written content) for any purpose, change, alter, amend, add to, delete from and otherwise modify, including but not limited to, any and all cuts, edits, rearrangements and other alterations, additions and deletions.
The responsibility for authenticity of all the submitted content, including the art-work and the personal information rests solely with the provider, and UMO will assume no role in case of litigations and copied works. The involved parties shall have to settle the matter themselves, within the conditions the original work was published/released.
We respect your privacy and will not be giving out, or sharing your personal information with any third party, for commercial or non-commercial use.

Deðerli büyüðüm Tarýk Minkari hocam beni günler önce arayarak boðazdaki Balta limaný üniversite sosyal tesislerine öðle yemeðine davet etti. Hocam bu tür davetleri sýk sýk dostlarýna yapar ve özellikle mizah aðýrlýklý sohbetler onu çok mutlu eder.
Son iki yýldýr da ben þöyle bir sözcük geliþtirdim.” MÝZAH ZEKANIN ZEKATIDIR” Doðru deðil mi sayýn dostum Yakalý.. derdi bu defa da gittiðimde buna bir kitap imzaladý. Kitabýn ismi “MÝZAH ZEKANIN ZEKATIDIR. Ýþ bankasý Kültür yayýnlarýndan çýkmýþ. Söyleþiyi Figen Þakacý yapmýþ./ Soyadý da çok yakýþmýþ/ Oldukça kalýn ve esprili yüklü bir kitap…
“Þimdi gelelim yeni geliþtirdiðim kelimeye, kadim dostum yakalý. Üç adam ayakta birinin elinde sayfasý parmaðýyla ayrýlmýþ bir kitap, kitabýn o bölümünü okumuþ, arkadaþlarýna anlatmýþ.. Öyle komik ki üçü birden katýla katýla gülüyorlar. Kahkahalarý kasýklarýna inmiþ. Ýþte bu kitabýn adý da “HEM GÜL HEM GÜLDÜR.”olsun.. Hocam hep zor konular veriyorsunuz…bu beni bu defa da aþar. Zaten elim titriyor. Ben bularý arkadaþlarýma aktarýp onlardan yardým isteyeyim. Sen bizin her þeyimizsin, birçok karikatürcü dostumuz bize ses verir ama bu iþin de sembolik bir ödülü olsun. “Peki tamam tamam, her katýlana kitaplarýmdan bir demet ,ve burada katkýda bulunanlarla hep beraber bol kahkahalý bir yemek. Olur mu ? Benim portremi de çizsinler komik komik. Yahu ben bayýlýyorum kendi komik karikatürlerime, onlarý karþýma koyup seyrediyorum, kitapta toplamak istiyorum”. Dedi. Abi yine geçen defa ki gibi elçiyim ben, bunu ilgili ilgisiz tüm dostlarýma aktaracaðým, bende çizeceðim. dedim.
Ramazandan sonraki bol “kahkaha zekatlý” yemeðinde üçüncü kiþi psikiyatri hocamýz sayýn Erdoðan Özdamar beyefendiydi ..O da çok tatlý esprileriyle sohbetimize renk kattý. Semih Balcýoðlu aðabeyimizle bir çok meclislerde bulunmuþ, ölüm yýldönümünde ondan fýkralar, anekdotlar nakletti, Semih aðabeyimi kahkahalarla gözlerimizden yaþlar gelene dek andýk. Hocamýz beni gözüyle ,eliyle muayene etti. Bende dönüþ yolunda dank etti.. Gülmenin bir adým ötesi delilikmiþ” Tarýk hocam önlem olarak mý sayýn psikiyatri hocamýzý da üçüncü kiþi yaptý acaba..(!..).
