The 14th International Ankara Cartoon Festival is going to be held from April 18th to 21th, 2008 during the 79th. Children’s Day activities, which are celebrated in our country every year in on the 23rd April .

The international 7-77 Cartoon Competition will be organized under the 14th International Ankara Cartoon Festival. The aim of the competition is to make children familiar with the art of cartooning and to contribute the development of sensitivity towards humour by enriching their world with the help of cartoons you will draw.

 

All proffessional and amateur cartoonists will be welcomed to  join in by drawing cartoons for children.

Cartoons can be drawn in black-white or colourful using any technique in either A4 or A3 size.

Cartoonists can join in the competition with an original  cartoon that can be understood by children. Competitors must write their names, surnames and addresses on the back of their cartoons.

 

The deadline for the competition is February 15th, 2008. Cartoons should be sent to the  following address:

The sole prize of the competition is the 7-77 PRIZE ($2,000) and the institutions’ commemorative plates.

The winner of the competition will be invited to Ankara from April 18th  to 21th, 2008 as a guest for the activities to be held during the 14th International Ankara Cartoon Festival and will receive the award at the opening of the exhibition.

The International 7-77 Cartoon Competition catalogue and the certificate will be sent to those  competitors whose cartoons were chosen by the jury and were printed in the catalogue.

Cartoons will not be sent back and all rights will be reserved by the Cartoon Foundation.

Asya, Avrupa ve Afrika’nýn buluþma noktasý olan Akdeniz havzasý, günümüz dünya uygarlýðýný oluþturan kültürlerin beþiðidir. Akdeniz, baþlý baþýna bir dünyadýr. TOURISM IN MEDITERRANEAN

Mediterranean catchment which is the meeting point of Asia, Europe and Africa has the characteristic to be a cradle of the cultures that constitute contemporary world civilization. 

Mediterranean is wholly a separate world .Mediterranean had been  witness to chipping of the stone, cultivation of  soil, working with iron, invention of  the writing, production of the glass, usage of the money, beginning of the commerce, construction of the temples, discovery of the stars and  the tone of the music which makes the human being a person. Mediterranean is a history itself. If tourism has a history, it begins from the Mediterranean because Mediterranean is also the center of tourism.  Therefore,” tourism in Mediterranean” is the subject of this contest. Our call is to all cartoonists of the world: “Draw, draw the tourism in Mediterranean”.

RULES

1. The contest is organized by Alanya Tourism and Promotion Foundation and it is open to the cartoonists worldwide.

2. The works contributed to this contest may have been published before; however, they should not have received any prize in any type of contest.

3. Each artist should contribute with only one work. They should not be computer print-outs or photocopied.

4. If there is any script involved, it should either be in English or Turkish.

5. The size should not exceed 30×40 cm.

6. Participants should write their names, family names, country, address and telephone number (s) in capital letters on the back of their works and they should enclose a short biography either in English or Turkish.

7. The contributions should be received by the following address prior to May 1, 2008.

1. Subject:                    THE LIFE AT THE MEDIEVAL CASTLE

4. Entries:                     – Initially each participant can send at most 3 works in digital form via Internet to the following address: cartoon@caricature.eu  The author must indicate in his e-mail the following informations: his first name, name, complete address, e-mail address, his phone number and the title of each work. The characteristics of these electronic sendings are as follows: format JPEG, good quality and max. 500 KB per picture.

– Out of these sendings by e-mail the jury will make a selection of 120 drawings and will request from the authors of these works the sending by mail of the originals for the choice of the prizes and the publication in the catalogue. All these 120 originals will be shown in the exhibition. Their size will be between DIN A4 (210x 297mm) and DIN A3 (297x420mm), the paper of good quality, not folded and without a passe-partout. On the back side of every work must be clearly mentioned the first name, the name, the complete address, the e-mail address, the phone number of the author as well as the title of the work. This deadline is 10^th April 2008.

 

5. Technique:                 Free, black and white or in color, without captions.

 

6. Exhibition:                 The award ceremony will be held on 25^th April 2008 in the castle and the exhibition will take place in the Hall of the knights of the Castle-palace of Vianden from 26^th April 2008 until 25^th May 2008. Then the exhibition will take place in the Museum of Caricature of Vianden until 30^th October 2008.

 

7. Returns:                    After 30^th October 2008 the originals will be returned to their authors except the works selected for one of the prizes. The awarded works will become property of the organizer.

The organizer cannot be held responsible for loss or damage during sending back.

 

8. Catalogue:                 The authors whose works will be selected for the exhibition will receive a free catalogue by mail. Prize winners will get their catalogue during the handing over of the prizes.

 

9. Results:                     The publication of the results will be done on the Internet sites www.caricature.eu and www.castle-vianden.lu 26^th April 2008. The award winners selected by the jury will be personally informed by e-mail or by phone.

Phase 1: Surfing to the Comics Competition

 

Illustrations will be accepted commencing November 8, 2007. Final date for submitting illustrations: February 28, 2008

The initial screening will be elementary and will include, among other things, elimination of drawings that do not meet the portal’s criteria, such as pornography, slander and abuse, encouragement of criminal activity, racism, and drawings that are not related to the competition subjects. Illustrations considered suitable entries to the comics competition will be displayed in the BuzziNews portal.

 

Phase 2: Illustration Judges

 

Nominations will be accepted commencing December 1, 2007. The five judges of the comics competition will be announced on January 15, 2008

 

Judges will be awarded a Comics Competition Judge Certificate confirming their services as judges in the Buzz News 2007 Awards.

 

Phase 3: Voting Begins

 

February 1, 2008 to February 28, 2008: The drawings are presented for a number of weeks for the judges and surfer public’s judgment.

March 3, 2008: The BuzziNews Awards Comics Competition Winners are announced

The comics competition is being held under the supervision of a CPA firm. The prizes will be awarded to the winners within 45 days of the announcement.

The number of illustrations a single illustrator is permitted to submit is unlimited.

Drawings including pornography, slander and abuse, encouragement of criminal activity, racism, and drawings that are not related to the competition subjects will not be included.  

The comics competition is being held under the supervision of Erlichman-Cinman Certified Public Accounts, a firm specializing in planning and financial consulting to companies and organizations.

As you know, we humans we have put our world through very big troubles.

The obvious reasons of disaster are countless:

Excessive growth in population, million tones of solid, liquid and gas waste, consumption of water and energy, urban plunder, chopping of forests, wars and bomb experiments, usage of hormones and pesticides, transformed genes, tankship tragedies, etc. And the results: Global warming, polluted waters, the hole in the ozone layer, ascending epidemic diseases, both drought and floods, erosion of the agricultural soil, massive poverty and hunger, extincting plant and animal species… We have to believe that it is still possible to save our only homeland, our world and have to try doing that.

We are calling all cartoonists in the world to produce dramatic pieces for our sensibility in this subject.

In our contest, we hope to see the proficiency of new cartoonists and innovations of masters.

Ø      The cartoons may not have been previously awarded and  must be based on the original idea of the artist. Cartoons that are deemed by the jury to be the same or closely similar to that known to be the work of another cartoonist will not be judged. Discussions and probable claims according all sorts of plagiarism  are at the expense of the participant.

Ø      The participation will be only by internet. Consequently, digital artworks will be also accepted.

Ø      The artists shall not present  more than  TWO  works. Otherwise, all of them will not be judged.

The properties of the works :

Ø      Minimum A4 (210 X  297 mm), Maximum A3 (297 X 420 mm),  in JPEG format with 300 dpi resolution. Maximum: 3 MB.

Ø      A separate e-mail for each work. The full name, address, telephone number of the artist is to be stated on the each mail with a  brief CV (max.350 characters).

Ø      The artists will call these cartoons and CV files with their own names.

Ø      The young domestic cartoonists under 18 years must add their ages also.

Ø      If the number of the participating cartoons will be very much; the members of the jury in Turkey will do a primary election before the meeting of the jury. If a foreign juror  wants to see other works, he/she can look at them and can add his/her selections.

 

Ø      Jury will meet on February 11st, 2008 and at the same day, the winners of the contest will be announced. The Jury’s judgment shall be final.

 

Ø      Prize giving ceremony will take place and the exhibition of the selected works will open Marh 22nd, 2008 at  the Lale Hall of Cultural Center in Manisa.

 

Ø      Municipality of Manisa hold the right  to publish the cartoons submitted to the contest in any form.

 

Ø      A catalogue will be published and one copy will be supplied to each artist whose work has been selected for this catalogue.

 

Ø      Artists submitting cartoons will automatically agree to abide by the above rules.

The Portuguese Printing Press Museum internationally launch the theme of the X PortoCartoon-World Festival ­ “Human Rights”, on the same day that the heads of state of 27 countries of the European Union sign the new Treaty of Lisbon and approve the charter of fundamental rights of the European citizens.
With the choice of this theme, the organizer of PortoCartoon wants the cartoonists worldwide to focus on the continued violation of human rights in the 21st century, and after more than two centuries of French Revolution (1789).
According to the general rules of this contest “this is a subject that crosses the world, from the most assumed countries in matters of the rights legislation to the most retrograde in the law and its practise… The theme is even justified by the fact that every day there are individual, collective, social, economic and cultural rights in question.
As one of the most important rights is the freedom of press, it is also fair and opportune with this 10th PortoCartoon to evoke and pay tribute to John Milton, the author of the first speech on this topic. The poet of the “Paradise Lost” was born 400 years ago (1608) and his speech, named Areopagitica was made in the English parliament in 1644.
The active intervention of the cartoonists all over the world is very relevant on the 60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of the Human Rights.
For those who eventually do not wish to participate under this theme, there will be a Free Category. The international politics, the social life, the communication and other themes can always by a way of expressing the humour art.
The winners of PortoCartoon will receive a monetary prize, the trophy of the festival, designed by Arqto Siza Vieira and special bottles of Port wine.
G. Wolinski presides to the international jury that has the following members: the President of FECO (Federation of Cartoonists’ Organizations), Marlene Pohle; representatives of the Ministry of Culture, the Faculty of Fine Arts of Porto, the Portuguese Printing Press Museum and any representatives of other institutions related to the cartoon.
The X PortoCartoon-World Festival has the official sponsorship of the Caixa Geral de Depósitos and will be inaugurated during the festivities of the city of Porto in June.
The PortoCartoon has been a space of excellence for humour worldwide and is considered by FECO (Federation of Cartoonists’ Organizations) as one of the three most important cartoon contests in the world, either for the participation number of artists worldwide and also for the value of its prizes.
The PortoCartoon began in 1999, and its exhibition receives every year thousands of visitors, both on the Portuguese Printing Press Museum installations and on the several cities and countries where is presented.

The works to the X PortoCartoon should arrive at the Portuguese Printing Press Museum (E.N. 108, nº 206, 4300-316 Porto, Portugal) with the entry form until 31 March 2008.
