RICARDO RENDÓN
The Outstanding Colombian caricaturist born in Rionegro-Antioquia (1894-1931), call “The Emperor” of the cartoon. One of the most penetrating and fine Latin American humorists in the XX century, in their work the humor was satire, it was characterized especially by the political cartoon. Their cartoons were true x-rays of the facts and of the individuals. It was pioneer of the graphic publicity in Colombia.
15th RENDON INTERNATIONAL CARTOON FESTIVAL
The Festival is an event sponsored by the municipal administration of Rionegro during Fourteen serial years in memory of Ricardo Rendón Bravo.
The Festival, only in the history of the country for their trajectory and continuity; he has allowed to look at the perception of authors of but of 80 countries, main characters of the changes and experiences of the towns that contribute to the humanity’s growth with the same humour. The laughing thought and its universal language, caricature is the most effective weapon against the thought that does not laugh.
It is a dream and an universal yearning to erase frontiers so territorial as ideological that prevent us to live in harmony and to visualize the light of the freedom as principle of peace and coexistence.
The Conditions :
1) The contest is open to all cartoonists all over the world.
2) The deadline for entries is November 8 – 2008
3) The themes of the competition are Three:
Theme 1. THE FUTURE, My Future, the immediate future, the one that satisfies
the necessities of the human being, the sustainable future, political, social,
economic, and environmental.
How will human beings face all of the changes that technological, scientific, and
cultural advances have brought up on them?
Everything concerning to the Future with its effects and consequences.,
theme 2. Personalities Famous, and theme 3. Free
4) Each participant can present in the competition a maximum of Three cartoons for theme.
5) You can participate with cartoons in white and black or in color.
6) The size of cartoons will not exceed 30 x 40 cms maximum.
7) You can also participate in the competition with cartoons that have already been published or rewarded previously, all the presented cartoons will be original. Photographs, photocopies etc, will not be accepted, and the transport of the cartoons in charge of the participant.
8) Participants are requested to send, together with their cartoons, a short curriculum vitae and a photograph.
9) In the reverse of each cartoon he/she should go the name, surname, address, telephone number and country of origin of the participant.
10) The selected Caricaturist will receive free a catalogue.
11) The jury composed of Colombian and foreign cartoonists.
12) The results will be announced in the month of December of 2008.
13) The cartoons presented in the competition won’t be returned.
14) The organization is reserved the right of exhibiting those works that he/she understands they can attempt against individual or collective rights.
15) The Participation in the competition supposes the entire acceptance and without reservations all the conditions.

THE CARICATURISTS WHO WON THE PRIZES AT THE 3rd INTERNATIONAL CARICATURE CONTEST OF
DON QUICHOTTE ON THE THEME OF “WORLD LANGUAGES” WERE DETERMINED
IN THE RESULT OF A PRETTY CONTESABLE SCORING BY OUR JURY BEING FORMED OF 16 PERSONS.
MEXICAN CARICATURIST ANGEL BOLIGAN WON THE FIRST PRIZE BY A BIG POINT DIFFERENCE.
PAVEL KUCZYNSKI WON THE SECOND PRIZE WITH HIS TWO CARICATURES (BY GETTING NEAR POINTS EACH OTHER),
BULGARIAN CARICATURIST RUMEN DRAGOSTINOV WON THE THIRD PRIZE,
AND KOSOVAN CARICATURIST NEKRA OBTAINED THE SPECIAL PRIZE IN MEMORY OF
OUR DEAR CARICATURIST FRIEND NECATI ABACI DEPARTED FROM US BEFORE A TIME.
EXCEPTING THESE PRIZES 11 CARICATURISTS WERE GIVEN MENTIONS.
THE PRIZES WILL GIVEN AT THE CEREMONY IN ESSLINGEN CITY IN GERMANY ON 11 OCTOBER,
AND THE EXIBITION –WHICH WILL GO ON FOR THREE MONTHS- WILL BE OPEN WITH A COCKTAIL.
THAT THE PARTICIPATION IS TOO MUCH ALSO BECAME THE SELECTION HARDER.
ONE OF THE REASONS EXERTING THE JURY MEMBERS WAS THAT THE THEME OF “WORLD LANGUAGES”
IS PERCEIVED AS “ORGAN” MORE THAN “DIALOGUE”.
THE JURY GIVING THE PRECEDENCE TO THE DIALOGUE OF WORLD LANGUAGES DETERMINED
THE RESULT BY THEIR OWN INDEPENDENT SCORINGS.
THE JURY BEHAVING SENSITIVELY ABOUT “SIMILAR” CARICATURES MADE THE NECESSARY ELIMINATIONS.
THE SIMILARS OF 100 FINAL CARICATURES WHICH HAVE BEEN BEING EXHIBITED APPROXIMATELY
FOR THREE WEEKS ON OUR SITE HAVE NOT UNFORTUNTELY COME OUT IN THIS TIME.
THEREFORE WE GUESS THAT ANY SIMILARITY WHICH WILL COME OUT AFTER THE DETERMINATION
OF THE PRIZES WILL NOT CHANGE THE DECISION OF THE JURY.
WE THANK ALL CARICATURISTS BECAUSE OF THEIR INTEREST TO OUR CONTEST.

RULES
1. Theme: “Sand, Pebble and Gravel”
2. The number of entries is limited until 5. They shall not have been exhibited or published before. Works must be originals and any kind of graphical technique will be accepted, including digital artwork if they are originally signed and if the print is number one (manual numbered).
3. The works have to be sent to the following address:

Our website will inform you if your works have arrived. The list of participants will regularly be updated.
4. The drawings shall have the following dimensions: 210 x 297 mm (A4) – (8.268 x 11.693 inches). The works shall not be provided by a passe-partout, neither be stuck on to a larger paper. The drawing must bear, on the reverse side, the surname, forename and address of the participant. The drawings shall not bear subtitles.
5. By virtue of their participation, the participants authorize the organizers to publish some of their works that they have received (in the catalogue and for the promotion of the exhibition).
6. The following prizes are foreseen:
- 1st prize: Euro 1.600 + trophy
- 2nd prize: Euro 1.400 + trophy
- 3rd prize: Euro 1.200 + trophy
- Prize of the ECC: personal exhibition in the ECC
- Prize of the EU: Euro 750
- Best Belgian Cartoon: Euro 350
7. By participating the participant lends his works to the organizers for exhibitions. The works received will remain at the disposal of the organizers until 01.11.2010.
8. The entries will only be sent back by the organizers on receiving a written request. The awarded works will become the property of the organizers.
9. If after announcement of the prizes, it appears that plagiarism has been committed, the jury can after deliberation withdraw the prize.
10. DEADLINE : 2009 February 15
Exhibition: during the Eastern Weekend and each Sunday from the 19th of April till the 21th of June 2009 – European Cartoon Center Kruishoutem.
Opening of the exhibition: Saturday 11th of April 2009.

In order to receive the free catalogue, please attach six (6) coupons “international reply” to cover the postage. These coupons are available in your local post office.
INFORMATION ABOUT THE THEME
The organisation wants to award a prize to cartoons on the theme “sand, pebble and gravel” (industrial materials, extraction and application).
