“Don Quichotte Cartoon Committee” member cartoonists are writting about the doubts and concerns which are focused on the “Nasreddin Hodja” winner cartoon. Some of them have certain attidutes while some are undecided. Some look at it with doubts but some think that is totally a coincidence. This is our goal… To direct our experiences and  to that kind of problems by discussing and reseaching if there is a real (?), no matter what is the subject. We aim only one thing: indisputable, right and ethical cartoonism!
Some of valued cartoonist who joined our cartoon committee has already explained their opinions. Following, we published some other opinions related to the argument.

Smilarity is in high dose.

Only its artist can know that it’s  an imitation or not.

Being unaware of the fight and kneeling down to work

and carrying all the burden of the fight are two different actions.

The difference in meaning is more than that  in appearance.

For me, it is a unique but a weak cartoon, since a similar one was created before.

P.S. In future, I would appreciate if you wouldn’t ask me YES or NO questions 🙂

Best regards…

The competition is over – both of artist won – but each and all feel
even now bitterness of this winnings.
It’s so difficult to say decisively, vote there is similary or
immitation. I wondered, watched amd I have to say that I find some of
reservations. I seem that author of prize works – 2007 surely looked on
compare work. I observe many samenesssuch as: theme, composition,
proportion, posture. It’s hard to run from association, but I hope it
was only inspiration…
Kind regards,

Similarity! (Benzer)…

Dear Erdogan,

This one is a difficult one. How likely would the current cartoonist have had the opportunity to view the original? I don’t know. I do see differences in the intent of the message. The “original” appears to be about the common man trying to continue life while war is going on around him.  The second, newer cartoon, seems to say that while countries are engaged in battle, the common man slips between and continues his life. Both are well rendered which makes my decision more difficult. Idea copiers tend to not be very good artists, do they not? I may be wrong however. Unfortunately, for me, the very close similarities would disqualify it as a competitive cartoon in any contest. It is of course impossible to know if this is happening! It would be good if there were some sort of forum where the artist of the questioned cartoon could explain him or herself. Personally, I hope that nothing I do is similar to anyone else’s.

One more thing I notice. The newer cartoon seems to mimic an engraving or an old woodcut. Could BOTH be based on an older image buy some Renaissance artist? For instance, getting the idea from

Dürer or someone?

I like the idea of these kinds of debates. I look forward to seeing the opinion of others.

Dear Erdogan and cartoonists,
according to me, there is a clear similarity in these cartoons but no imitation on purpose.
My argument is the following: the messages aren’t the same although the cartoons use similar graphic elements.
In the cartoon created by Dangelis Marco in 1995, the medieval soldiers are fighting while in Nikitin Igor’s image, the central character prevents the medieval guards from fighting. Igor also uses a different graphic techniques. Well, we could say that Igor inspired himself with Marco’s creation, but according to me, Igor’s interpretation is rich and different enough to diserve a price.
I hope this could help.
By the way, the 2 artworks are stunning! 🙂

Dear Erdogan
I would exclude imitation.
The second cartoon (the one of Nikitin Igor’s) has been quite strongly
influenced by the composition of the original cartoon. But the Nikitin
Igor’s cartoon message is also one completly new and independent from the
one of Marco D’Angelis, and it is a very nice and powerful one indeed.
So for me in this case we can obviously talk of a clear influence, therefore
similarity, but not imitation.

Immitation!

For me , it is not such a common  idea , for being a coincidence.

In fact, I don´t even like the idea .

Why using in the  two examples medieval soldiers or roman gladiators?

Is that “historical humor”?

SIMILARITY (Benzer) tabii…

bence kopya ile ilgisi yok, aksi halde Rus sanatci

ilk cizgilerin etkisinden kurtulamazdi.

Bilincalti esinlenme olabilir…

Ayni gazetenin farkli sayfalarinda dahi boyle kazalar olabiliyor,

örnekleri coktur. Onemli olan juride bir kisinin dahi

D’Angelis’in oniki yil onceki karikaturunu hatirlayamamasi.

Hard to tell.

Even with all similarities, it’s impossible to
say for sure that it’s an immitation,

at least for me.

DEAR ERDOGAN

IN AGREEMENT With me, I find DIFFICULT TO DEFINE THIS SITUATION,

BUT the ATTITUDE IS DIFFERENT, In the CASE Of the CARTOONIST LAND MARK D ‘ ANGELIS,

IF IT PERCEIVES THAT the INTERMEDIO OR EITHER the PEASANT,

THIS LOOKING SOLUTION TO LEAVE that MOMENT OF WAR, while the CARTOON Of the CARTONIST IGOR NIKITIN THIS SHOWING the WAR BEING TAKEN By the PEASANT,

MORAL Of the HISTORY Is DIFFICULT TO DEFINE Because of the INTENTION OF BOTH

the CARTOONISTS. DEBTOR FOR THE ATTENTION.

YOURS TRULY
