Dear Erdogan

I think the most important issue in the cartoon’s world is the similarity between one cartoon and another, we always see this issue take place time by time… perhaps we need definition for similarity as well as for imitation, maybe we need to know when the cartoon similar or imitate .. I would like to open our committee in this important issue and have debate about it if you don’t mind dear friend

I think the most important issue that had taken place in the cartoon’s world, presents as the similarity between some cartoons, and lead us to ask if this matter is innocence similarity, or imitation  .. All of us have seen this issue took place recently in “Nasreddin Hodja Cartoon Contest” and “Aydin Dogan Contest”, also we always see this similarity in newspapers, cartoon sites… etc… Not only with the few hours cartoonist but unfortunately also with some of experts.

From my point of view… I think we must consider similarity by separating between two points…

The  First: presents by the” inspire” in building the cartoon’s subject, that the artist achieve it from his cultural, political or social background in general, and from other things that surrounding him in his work as a cartoonist in particular, for example:  all of us use chess, plain, gun ..etc, as things have the ability to play a role in the cartoon for showing the subject by drawing, so it’s clear that I can’t say “imitation” against two cartoons presents the gun in general; this is from the first side. And as a cartoonist I can see one of Heine’s cartoons, if he is drawing a tree as a hand holding Palestinian’s flag for example,  perhaps his cartoon will inspire me to draw the Lebanese’s flagstaff as a hand too, or the Palestinian flag itself as a hand, can I ask then, is  this an imitation? I don’t think so in my opinion, because the thing which played a role in showing the subject is deferent…

What I want to say is : “imitation” (which is the second point) between one cartoon and another must has two union bases, similarity in the subject as well as similarity in the thing that have done a role by drawing for showing the subject.. If these two bases haven’t existed in the “similar” cartoon I can’t say there is an imitation in the whole issue…

In final… this is my approach about similarity… And I would like to hear your great opinion about this necessary issue in the world of cartoon…
