Rules and organization of the competition

Concept:

The objective of the competition is to show creative view toward climate change via interpretation of professionals and amateur cartoonists from all over the world. Topics could be chosen among objectives accepted by EU for decreasing negative impact of human activities. Such could be: encouraging usage of renewable energy (sun, wind, geothermal energy, energy from tides and ebbs); CO₂ trade emission schemes; improvement of energy efficiency and activities of each individual to decrease used energy (CO₂ footprint).

Categories:

І. Cartoon;

ІІ. Comic strip;

Conditions for participation:

1.     Every participant can present up to 3 works in A3/A4 format;

2.     Cartoons/comic strips can be color or black and white;

3.     The participants should be at least 18 years old;

5.     Participants should send a short CV, name, surname and family name, title of the work, postal address, telephone number, e-mail address.

6.     The Jury including members:

·       Volodya Kenarev, artist,deputy mayor in Municipality of Ruse;

·       Krasimira Kirilova, artist, curator in Ruse Art Gallery;

·       Valentin Georgiev, artist-cartoonist,

·       Emiliya Petkova, manager EIC Europe Direct Ruse

·       Irina Yordanova, expert in EIC Europe Direct Ruse

Will determine the winners of the following awards:

·       For category І – І prize of 200 euro and diploma;

·       For category ІІ – І prize of 200 euro and diploma;

·       2 special diplomas in each category.

The awarded and selected works will take part in exhibition in Ruse Art Gallery; the cartoons and comic strips are not going to be sent back to the sender and will become part of collection of EIC Europe Direct Ruse. They will be part of exhibition, which will be shown in Europe Direct centers in Bulgaria.

7.     The postal expenses are covered by participants. There is no fee for participation in the competition;

8.     The selected and awarded authors will receive electronic catalogue – CD from the exhibition.

9.     The participation in this competition is considered as agreement of the author with its conditions.

              FIRST INTERNATIONAL A. KLAS CARTOON CONTEST

 

    The oldest Serbian illustrated review “Ilustrovana politika” is organizing the first international cartoon contest honoring its own the most famous cartoonist Aleksandar Klas (1928-2002).

    Since 1950 over 30 000 his cartoons were published in national and international newspapers and magazines, and he had over 60 individual exhibitions. He got more than 130 prizes, so he entered in “Guinness’s book of records” as the most rewarded cartoonist in the world. Besides cartoon his occupation is painting, as well as illustration of books.

 

    Participation rules

 

    1. Competition is open to professional and amateur cartoonists from all over the world.

    3. Participants take part in the competition with original cartoons. Cartoons must be and amateur cartoonists from all over the world.

    2. The theme of the cartoons is free. Cartoons must be signed by the cartoonist in case that they are submitted as digital prints. Photographs, photocopies, etc., will not be accepted.

    4. Size of cartoons should not exceed 30 x40 cm.

    5. Name, surname, address, phone number, e-mail, country of origin of the participant should be written on the back of his/her piece of work.

    6. Works must reach the organizer not later than November 1, 2009, packed in protective cover to: “Ilustrovana politika”, za konkurs karikatura A.Klas, Makedonska 35, 11000 Belgrade, Serbia.

    7. Result will be announced on second half of November 2009.

    8. Participating cartoons will be kept at the virtual Cartoon Museum, to be established by the review “Ilustrovana politika”.

    9. First International A. Klas Cartoon Contest will be celebrated with an award ceremony and exhibition of selected cartoons in November 2009 in Belgrade.

  10. Jury will award the following prizes:

            – Grand Prix A.Klas: 1000 euros and diploma,

– 5 diplomas.

   11. Participating cartoons will be put into catalogue. The cartoons for the catalogue and exhibition will be selected by a jury. A catalogue will be sent to the cartoonists whose piece of work are exhibited and published in the catalogue.

   12. Organizer reserve the right to use the sent cartoons for ILUSTROVANA POLITIKA advertising purposes without any special fees paid to the authors: to be exhibited and reproduced in a variety of advertising materials, as well as printed in catalogue and review.

   13. Participants are considered to have accepted all the conditions.

   14. Participants are kindly asked not to post the works via electronic means as these will not be accepted for the competition.

Yarismanin Konusu ve Amaci :

Yarismanin konusu Calisan Cocuk karikaturleridir. Yarismanin amaci ulkemizin calisma yasaminda yer alan cocuk emegi olgusunu on plana alarak, calisan cocuklarin tarim ve sanayideki calisma yasamlarini belgelemek, arsivlemek; karikatur sanatcilarini ozendirmek ve onlara destek vermektir.

Yarismaya Katilim :

    Yarismaya tum profesyonel ve amator karikaturculer, CALISAN COCUKLAR uzerine cizecekleri karikaturle katilabilirler.
    Karikaturler A4 ya da A3 boyutlarinda istenilen teknikle, siyah beyaz, renkli olarak cizilebilir.
    Karikaturculer, en cok uc orijinal karikaturle yarismaya katilabilirler.
    Yarismacilar karikaturlerin arkasina ad-soyadlarini, telefonlarini, adreslerini ve e-posta adreslerini yazmalidirlar.

Degerli Cocuk Dostlari

Fisek Enstitusu Calisan Cocuklar Bilim ve Eylem Merkezi Vakfi ile Karikatur Vakfi “Calisan Cocuklar” konulu bir karikatur yarismasi duzenlemistir.

Cocuklarin kucuk yasta oyun ve kendini gelistirme olanaklarindan yoksun kalmalarina; calismak ve kendi yasamini kurtarmak gibi buyuk bir sorumlulugu yuklenmelerine sizler gibi karsiyiz. Onlarin yerinin 18 yasina kadar egitim oldugunun bilincindeyiz. Bunun icin genis cabalar icindeyiz. Ama bu saglanana kadar da calisan cocuklarin yaninda olmak, onlara dostlugumuzu ve tum destegimizi vermek odevimiz…

Calisan cocuklarin is yasamlarini konu alan karikaturleri yaristirarak, karikatur sanatcilarinin ve kamuoyunun dikkatini bu alana cekmek istiyoruz. Olusan arsiv, hem album olarak yayinlanacak ve hem de www.fisek.org.tr internet sitesinde surekli olarak sergilenecektir. Bu yarismanin urunleri,  calisan cocuklari esirgeme mucadelemize destek olacaktir. Ortak mucadelemizle bir gun ortadan kalkacak olan cocuk emegini belgelemek ve tarihe iz birakmak da bu yarismanin onemli amaclarindan biri.

Cevrenizdeki calisan cocuga duyarli karikatur sanatcilarina ekte gonderdigimiz yarisma sartnamesini duyurabilirseniz, bizi mutlu edersiniz. Her seyin bugunkunden daha guzel oldugu bir dunyaya ulasilmasi dilegiyle, calismalarinizda kolayliklar dileriz.

1- In search of new values by encouraging the production of comics and providing its public presentation, the City of Amadora (CMA) is promoting this contest Comics, entered the 18th International Festival of Cartoons / Amadora 2009 ( FIBD’A), taking place in this city between the 23th October and 8 November.

2- SUBJECT: The Big Twenty

3- CONDITIONS FOR PARTICIPATION
a) All authors between 16 and 30 years old can compete.
b) Competitors may submit cartoons done individually or in teams.
c) Each competitor or team may participate with a maximum of 2 works using a different title for each one.
d) In case of postponement, the new date is considered for the enforcement of age limits set.
e) To place teams in their age group, it is done by the age of the oldest of their members.

4- TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
a) Only original unpublished works are accepted which are produced this year and may be black and white or color.
b) The format of the works should be A4 (210x297mm).
c) The authors should make two photocopies of each board, leaving one in his possession and sending the other along with the original.
d) The boards may not be signed. Competitors must leave a little blank space in each of them to subsequently sign, for the purposes of exhibition or publication.
j) In case of such cartoons made earlier and already signed, the signature must be covered by a strip of paper or an opaque white gouache.
k) All cartoons and copies shall be identified with pseudonym on the back.
l) The pseudonym must be completely original and can not have been used previously by the author.

5- SCHEDULE
a) The deadline for submission of work on the CMA – Cnbdi is October 1st, 2009 until 17:00.
b) In the case of cartoons are sent by mail from Portugal, deadline is considered 1 October 2009, contained in the postmark. Instead, the authors of cartoons sent from abroad will have to ensure that its competitor will come to database and delivered in Portugal Amadora Cnbdi by 1 October 2009, regardless of the stamp abroad.
c) The CMA – Cnbdi is not responsible for any works that arrive after the day of the meeting of the Jury, regardless of the date of postmark.
d) Work arriving after this date will not be considered by the jury, and will be returned to the competitor.
e) The works that are not winning the CMA will be returned by mail to competitors.
f) The CMA is not responsible for the work that are not raised in their post offices.

6- REGISTRATION
a) With the entry is submitted by each competitor, the value of � 2.50 (two Euros and fifty cents) for return of work and organizational costs, deliver value to the procuring entity by check payable to: Treasurer of the City Council Amadora.
b) For purposes of participation, participants must cut or photocopy the entry form, fill it and send it along with a photocopy of identity card (ID) card Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN aka Income Tax Card) and check for � 2.50 (two Euros and fifty cents) in the envelope duly sealed, attached to the comics, and inscribed on the outside the pen and its ranking.
c) The entries are considered valid only after receipt of our competitor is not enough to send the entry form.
d) The works should be sent or delivered by 1 October 2009 (weekdays between 10:00 and 17:00 hours) to:

7- EXHIBITION
a) All entries for the contest are subject to pre-selection jury for the space available for exhibition.
b) The assembly and disassembly of the exhibition with the work involved in the contest and selected by the jury is the sole responsibility of the CMA.
c) The exhibition will be open during the 20th International Festival of Comics Amadora.
d) The organization makes sure of all these works. It is also your responsibility to install surveillance system on the premises of an exposure.

8- JURY
a) This juried competition is made by the Director of FIBD’A the committee, an author of BD, an author of Cartoons, a writer, critic and scholar of BD, a critic and scholar Cartoon / Caricature, a representative of press, a developer and researcher of zines, the commissioner of the exhibition’s central FIBDA and a teacher of a school of Amadora.
b) The jury must perform pre-selection for exhibition and decide to order the awarded works.
c) The jury reserves the right not to award any prize or any of the merit of the work.
d) The jury will meet in early October 2009.
e) The decisions of the jury shall be final.

9- PRIZES
a) Because the cartoon is primarily an art to be enjoyed through its publication, the organization will make every effort in order to edit the awards.
b) The monetary awards are distributed as follows:
1st Prize: 600 Euro
2nd Prize: 450 Euro
3rd Prize: 350 Euro 

c) Jury can avoid an award of more than one prize to the same place.
d) Where appropriate, the jury may also assign non-cash prizes, named for Honorable Mentions.

10- FINAL NOTES
a) The original award-winning comic books are the property of the entity.
b) All competitors are entitled to the Festival catalog and free admission to all initiatives of the 20th International Festival of Comics da Amadora, and to that end identify and request it at reception of the event.
c) Omissions in this Regulation shall be decided by the organizer, there is no appeal against decisions of the Jury.
d) The presentation of the work represents the full acceptance of these regulatory standards by competitors to this competition.
